Going Great Guns in the Race for Life

June 18, 2010 Leave a comment

Tomorrow we are taking part in the Basingstoke Race for Life in a bid to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

We will be joining the 1,000 women running the 10km route at the Down Grange Sports Centre in Basingstoke tomorrow. We are running in memory of Debbie Jenkins, a much-missed colleague, who passed away last year after suffering from cancer. Debbie has been a huge inspiration to the team and they will be honouring her memory by raising as much money as possible for the charity.

We’re really looking forward to taking part in this year’s race and each have our individual reasons for wanting to raise money for Cancer Research. It’s also great to have the rest of Great Guns behind us every step, limp and jog of the way! It’s such a good way for everyone to get together and help raise money for such an excellent cause in Debbie’s memory.

Tideway sails on with Great Guns

March 25, 2010 Leave a comment

In September last year I was fortunate enough to be invited to take part in Channel 4’s Secret Millionaire TV show. After spending eight days living undercover in South London, where I was introduced to and inspired by people who needed help, I chose to support three organisations, one being an inspirational London-based sailing club.

The club in question is Tideway Sailability and I am delighted to be getting involved in a project with them. To kick-start our activity, last week we helped host a fundraising event at the club’s Surrey Quays premises with the aim of attracting people to invest in the site over the next year.

A number of inspirational faces attended the event, including Hilary Lister, the first disabled woman to sail solo around Britain, and self-proclaimed ‘big fan’ local MP Simon Hughes, who expressed his support for the project. All this is great news for Tideway which is hoping to produce its own British Olympic hopeful for the 2012 Paralympics!

Here are just a few pictures from the event…
